Mental Health Awareness Week 2022

Written by Staffline | May 13, 2022 9:53:18 AM

Mental Health Awareness Week is an annual event when there is an opportunity for the whole of the UK to focus on achieving good mental health. The Mental Health Foundation started the event 21 years ago. The event has grown to become one of the biggest awareness weeks across the UK and globally.

This year’s theme is Loneliness. Loneliness is affecting more and more of us in the UK and has had a huge impact on our physical and mental health during the pandemic. Our connection to other people and our community is fundamental to protecting our mental health and we need to find better ways of tackling the epidemic of loneliness. We can all play a part in this.

Between Monday 9th May and Friday 13th May, Staffline hosted its own Mental Health Awareness Week, helping to break the stigma around mental health. Throughout the week, we shared helpful and supporting content around five key themes for every day;

- Monday, 9th May: Mental Health Awareness Week 2022 Theme: Loneliness

- Tuesday, 10th May: Having Good Conversations about Mental Health

- Wednesday, 11th May: Financial Wellbeing

- Thursday, 12th May: Mental Health at Work

- Friday, 13th May: Tea & Talk Day

In addition, on Thursday, 12th May, we organised a live Q&A session with our Health & Wellness Ambassadors for our colleagues. This formed part of our brand-new learning offer, 'Ask an Expert', providing an opportunity for our colleagues to speak to certain subject-matter experts within the company, throughout the year.

To wrap up the week, we're encouraging our colleagues to host their very own 'Tea & Talk' days across the business, an opportunity for everyone to connect with the people around them and have meaningful conversations not just around mental health, but about anything at all. By being vocal, you can develop more coping skills, stronger relationships and most importantly, a better sense of yourself.

One of our core focuses at Staffline is to keep the conversation about mental health alive, primarily through our commitments in our Health and Wellness Action Plan. So far this year, improvements made through our Health and Wellness Action Plan include;

- A brand-new mental health section in our Welcome Inductions
- 10 more qualified Mental Health First Aiders (MHFA) from across the business (22 in total)
- A commitment to offer MHFA training to all members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT)

Whilst this a week-long campaign, we want to encourage ourselves and each other to continue talking about our mental health and keep the conversation alive. 1 in 4 people in the UK experience mental health issues, so take the time to check-in with your colleagues, friends and family - you might help more than you could imagine.
